The Rusyn “Barbizon”

The Transcarpathian School of Painting, also known in the art world as the Subcarpathian School of Painting, as an early 20th century movement represented an effort to establish an original, non-regional artistic school with its own center and high aesthetic and technical standards. It was led by Bokshai, Erdelyi and Hrabovskyi. The founders soon established the Public School of Painting where new generations of Rusyn artists were trained.
